Built to Tear Cars Apart: The KOBELCO SK210D in Action

August 7, 2026

Watching an excavator pick up a car is impressive. Watching one dismantle that car with speed and precision is even better. Let’s look at the KOBELCO SK210D-11.

The KOBELCO SK210D-11 Multi-Dismantling Machine is not a standard excavator with a demolition attachment added later. KOBELCO designed this specialty excavator specifically for automotive dismantling and recycling applications.

At Houston Heavy Machinery, we work with equipment built for demanding jobs. The SK210D-11 is a perfect example of what happens when a machine is designed around one specialized application.

Purpose-Built for Automotive Dismantling

Scrap yards need more than brute force. Operators must separate valuable materials, remove components, and process vehicles efficiently.

The KOBELCO SK210D-11 combines power with precise control to handle these jobs.

Its multi-dismantling nibbler can grip, pull, twist, crush, and cut material. The machine also uses specialized clamp arms to hold vehicles securely while the operator works. This setup gives the operator access to different areas of the vehicle without relying on multiple machines.

That precision can help scrap and recycling operations separate valuable materials such as steel, aluminum, copper, wiring, engines, radiators, and other components.

Serious Power for a Serious Job

The KOBELCO SK210D-11 delivers 160 horsepower and has an operating weight of approximately 67,500 pounds.

Its KVE720PR front attachment provides up to 121,170 pounds of shearing force at the blade center. It also delivers 44,160 pounds of crushing force at the tooth-jaw tip.

That power allows the machine to cut through vehicle components while maintaining the control needed for detailed dismantling.

Instead of simply crushing an entire vehicle at once, the operator can strategically separate different materials and components.

Faster Vehicle Processing

Efficiency matters in high-volume scrap and recycling operations.

Traditional vehicle dismantling can require significant manual labor and time. A purpose-built car dismantling excavator changes that process.

KOBELCO designed the SK210D-11 to process vehicles quickly while giving operators the precision needed to recover reusable parts and valuable materials. The machine can perform tasks that would otherwise require several steps, tools, or pieces of equipment.

For busy scrap yards, faster processing can mean higher productivity and better use of available labor.

Built for the Scrap Yard

Car dismantling puts equipment through demanding conditions. KOBELCO reinforces the SK210D-11 for this environment.

The machine features a reinforced boom and arm, heavy-duty cylinders, protective guarding, specialized hydraulic piping, and a heavy counterweight for increased stability.

The nibbler attachment also rotates 360 degrees. This gives operators the ability to approach vehicle components from different angles without constantly repositioning the entire machine.

The result is a demolition excavator built to work where standard machines may struggle.

Specifications tell part of the story. Seeing the machine work tells the rest.

In the video below, watch the KOBELCO SK210D-11 handle vehicles in a working scrap yard. From lifting cars to tearing through vehicle components, this machine shows exactly why specialized equipment can make such a difference in automotive recycling.
